How to battle seasickness.
Seasickness or motion sickness is a very common phenomenon caused by rocking the ship. It is a reaction of your body when it’s inner balance is torn down. Seasickness comes because our brains are getting to much different information. The brain receives information on the one hand, by using Visual stimuli mediate the eyes and on the other hand, at the same time about the position of the body continuously collected from our nerve center of balance. On the basis of all the data we get seasick.
Symptoms of seasickness
The first symptoms are indifferent, lack of interest in surroundings, yawning. Paleness comes in, you get that uncomfortable feeling in the stomach, pressure in the head rises. You become restless and you begin to sweat. Most noticeable on the forehead and above the upper lip. Sweat is cold to the touch. All that leads to nausea and an urge to vomit. Anyone with A normal functioning body can get seasick.
In the majority of cases, people get resistant to seasickness after a couple of days of exposure to it. At this time our brains somehow reconcile with the fact that we are rocking. Though much can be done never to get seasick in the first place:
- Avoid reading and working with your computer, or being at the table in general. Even better don’t be below decks at all while sailing.
- Be careful that you’re not going to be too cold or that you do not get wet.
- If you’re still not relieved, lie on your back, close your eyes and try not to move the body, especially the head.
- If vomiting occurs, make sure that you drink enough fluids.
The astronauts have the same problem.
Because astronauts have one of the forms of sea sickness it has been deemed that seasickness is a part of a group of syndromes of weakness resulting from periodical acceleration and the slowdown of our bodies and/or similar corresponding optical impression. Therefor among these diseases are all similar situations, which most often occurs during a trip. May that be with a car, on a swing rope or just by observing the ship. They can be commonly referred to as travel sickness.
While they are busy exploring space, engineers at NASA are trying to find the best cure for motion sickness. Their cure is an intranasal formulation of scopolamine ”INSCOP”.

If you want to protect in advance against nausea, you can reach after some of the medicines. Keep in mind that preventive medications start working only a few hours after eating, so you need to take them much before the start of the voyage. If the disease is already performed, these drugs are not effective. But NASA is experimenting with something quite new. INSCOP is supposed to be the cure of the future.
Among the most common are the Medramine-R, and scopolamine patches (Scopolamin TTS).
The best choice is the scopolamine patch (Scopolamin TTS), which is for sale in all pharmacies. Glue it over the ear, at least six to eight hours prior to the start of the trip and it works for about three days without side effects.
Of the natural medicines the most frequently mentioned is ginger.
Effective natural remedy against seasickness is ginger. Ginger, exotic Indian plant with a little bit of spice flavor, can successfully match standard medications in the fight against seasickness. If taken in powder 2 grams are enough to make you feel better. Though you can just slice a bit of the root and chew it during your voyage.
